A thesis statement should do two things:
1. State your main point - this is the most general overarching statement of the essay. It could be just one sentence. For example:
Traveling can be lots of fun.
2. It should explain why you believe that main point to be true. For example:
Traveling is an opportunity to see the world. It is also a chance to practice a foreign language.
So, a complete thesis statement would be:
Traveling can be lots of fun for two reasons. First, it is an opportunity to see the world. And second, it's a chance to practice a foreign language.
